We wrapped up the day’s travels at the Grand Hotel just around the corner from the hotel and right on the Zocalo - at sunset, no less. As we sipped on our cocktails four stories up, we watched the plaza light up and a civil rights group marching around below us. On our way up to the restaurant, we meandered around the lobby and the upstairs balcony admiring the decor. Art Deco elegant chandeliers, beautiful plush furniture, Tiffany style stained glass and the glass elevator were pretty awesome.

The Gran Hotel was originally built on 1526 for the then current Spanish royal accountant. It transitioned to a very high end department store in 1895 - one of the largest in Latin America, and has managed to keep most of its original decor.
Couldn't resist getting our photos taken looking over the Zocalo |
