We spent the morning in Coyoacan, an historic village dating back to pre-Hispanic times. We walked through the Central Garden park, featuring two bronze coyote statues surrounded by a circle of fountains. The name means “place of coyotes.” Narrow cobblestone streets flanked by former mansions and country homes, Coyoacan has become a very desirable neighborhood, crowded with tourists who visit the little shops and restaurants. especially on weekends.
Before heading to Frida’s place, we did a cameo at the cathedral like church, SanJuan Bautista, built in the mid 1500’s.They certainly knew how to build grand churches, many of them reminding me of European cathedrals.
This cathedral-like church was built by the Jesuits in the 1500's |
Look closely and you see there are tiny replicas of limbs and other body parts of parishoners' ailments. They seek healing from the Church. |
This fellow was waiting to serenade willing tourists outside the Church |
Frida memento were readily available on the street |
