Coyoacan

We spent the morning in Coyoacan, an historic village dating back to pre-Hispanic times. We walked through the Central Garden park, featuring two bronze coyote statues surrounded by a circle of fountains. The name means “place of  coyotes.”  Narrow cobblestone streets flanked by former mansions and country homes, Coyoacan has become a very desirable neighborhood, crowded with tourists who visit the little shops and restaurants. especially on weekends.

Before heading to Frida’s place, we did a cameo at the cathedral like church, SanJuan Bautista, built in the mid 1500’s.They certainly knew how to build grand churches, many of them reminding me of European cathedrals.

This cathedral-like church was built by the Jesuits in the 1500's

Look closely and you see there are tiny replicas of limbs
and other body parts of parishoners' ailments. They
seek healing from the Church.

This fellow was waiting to serenade willing tourists
outside the Church

More murals along brick walls

Frida memento were readily available on the street
